Our Founder, Robin M. Petersen, is Board Certified in Elder Law by the National Elder Law Foundation, which is accredited by the American Bar Association. He is honored to have received accreditation by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to prepare, present, and prosecute claims for veterans before the VA. Accreditation refers to the authority granted by the VA to those attorneys who meet the standards established by the VA. The VA's stated purpose in requiring attorney accreditation is to ensure that claimants for VA benefits receive "qualified assistance in preparing and presenting their claims." Mr. Petersen is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Military Appeals.

Our Attorneys, Paralegals and Administrative Staff make it their personal mission to ensure that every client has access to a team that is ready to assist during all Life Stages. We have been here for over 30 years and have the experience of knowing how to do it right. You only have one chance to get it right for your family. You don’t want to risk squandering your life’s efforts. Simply put, having the comfort and power of a quality Estate Planning Firm behind you for life is priceless!
You want to hire an advisor you trust to create an estate plan for you, therefore it is important to understand what services you get when hiring our Estate Planning & Elder Law firm. Because it is so important to understand your family dynamics in creating an effective estate plan, we make sure that we take the time to get to know you and your family to understand your specific situation and your life goals. Your family dynamics are much more important than just spelling the kids’ names correctly and inserting them in a will or trust form. You want to leave a legacy, not a bad memory when they think back on how your estate settled after your death. Without a good plan, it can be a messy and costly affair.
The firm was founded by Robin Petersen, Brevard County’s only Nationally Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA), who has overseen more than 2000 estate administrations and has personally served as Executor, Trustee, and Agent under Power of Attorney for over 100 clients. He understands the planning involved, the questions to ask, and the provisions necessary in the estate planning documents. He has educated other attorneys on proper planning and authored a book on the topic.
A good estate plan aims to preserve the maximum amount of wealth possible for the intended beneficiaries and flexibility for the individual prior to death. Estate planning is the act of preparing for the transfer of a person’s wealth and assets after his or her death. Assets, life insurance, pensions, real estate, cars, personal belongings, and debts are all part of one’s estate. We take the time to discuss each asset and how it fits into the planning picture. Having quality documents are only a beginning. Looking at how assets are titled and how beneficiary designations are named are critical components for an effective estate plan.
Estate planning doesn’t begin and end with a last will and testament. We specialize in this field and will help you develop a plan to mitigate or avoid estate, income, capital gains, and property taxes, and work to ensure that your life’s savings and assets are safe from your beneficiaries’ creditors after your death. Estate planning is about protecting your loved ones, which means in part giving them protection from big tax hits. Essential to estate planning is transferring assets to heirs with an eye toward creating the smallest tax burden possible for them.
The Attorneys at Estate Planning & Elder Law Center of Brevard will apply 30 plus years of specialized knowledge in the areas of Estate Planning, Trust Administration/Litigation, Probate Elder Law/Medicaid, Guardianship, Veterans Benefits, Medicaid Crisis Planning, Special Needs, Asset Protection, Estate Tax Planning, Business Succession Planning and Charitable Planning to meet your needs. Not only do we understand estate planning, but we can guide your family through difficult decisions that arise as you age: such as planning to pay for long term care, as well as naming trusted individuals ahead of time to make your medical decisions and financial decisions.
Once your documents are finalized and legally binding, we will offer you every three years, at no charge, a full review of the Estate Planning documents we prepared for you, to make sure that all your information is still current. We also regularly review the way your assets are structured so that they minimize taxes and pass efficiently.
To add an extra layer of security for you, we keep duplicate originals at the Firm. We are the only firm that we are aware of that provides this additional service. We can have your complete history and wishes at your disposal any time you or your family needs them. Furthermore, we send out regular newsletters highlighting changes in the law you may need to know about to keep your plan current.
We still have many active clients from the early 1990’s. This is a testament to their loyalty. They would not keep coming back if they were not satisfied. As you can see, hiring an Estate Planning Attorney is more than just having someone prepare your documents. At our Firm, you are hiring an attorney who will give you individual attention to make sure that your documents reflect your exact wishes and current laws as they change now and as time goes by. Proper attention is given to discussing your asset structuring and beneficiary designations. This attention to detail reduces family conflict, minimizes or eliminates delay, costs and taxes, and maximizes the legacy that is there to pass to your heirs.
